✦ Introduction

Why Sikkim Feels Like It Was Made for Honeymooners

There are some places in the world that make you slow down. Sikkim is one of them. Tucked away in the Eastern Himalayas, this tiny Indian state has a way of wrapping couples in a kind of quiet magic that is very hard to describe — but impossible to forget.

The air is clean and cool. The mountains are enormous and humbling. The monasteries sing with the sound of prayer bells. And the roads wind through valleys that look like they were painted by hand. If you and your partner are looking for a honeymoon that feels genuinely special — not just a checklist of beaches and sunsets — Sikkim honeymoon packages deserve to be at the very top of your list.

We have personally traveled to Sikkim, spoken to couples who chose it for their honeymoon, and worked with travel experts in the region. Everything in this guide comes from real experience — not brochures.

“Sikkim gives you something rare — the feeling of being completely away from the world, while being completely together.”

In this guide, we walk you through the best Sikkim honeymoon packages, the must-visit places, the ideal time to go, honest pricing, and everything you need to make the right choice for your trip.

6 Reasons Sikkim Stands Apart from Other Honeymoon Destinations

🏔️

Himalayan Grandeur

Sikkim sits in the shadow of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak. No postcard can prepare you for seeing it in person.

🌸

Untouched Nature

Over 35% of Sikkim is protected forest. You get valleys full of rhododendrons, orchids, and rare wildlife — completely pristine.

🏡

Intimate Hotels

Boutique resorts here offer mountain-view rooms, open fireplaces, and candlelit dinners that big city hotels just cannot match.

☮️

Safe & Peaceful

Sikkim is consistently rated one of India’s safest states. Couples can explore freely, day or night, without a second thought.

🌏

Cultural Richness

Tibetan, Nepali, and Lepcha cultures blend here in a way that makes every meal, festival, and monastery visit feel deeply moving.

💸

Incredible Value

Compared to Maldives or Europe, a premium Sikkim honeymoon package offers a richer experience at a fraction of the cost.

01

Gangtok — The Gateway That Never Gets Old

Most Sikkim honeymoon journeys begin in Gangtok, and honestly, many couples wish they could just stay here. The capital of Sikkim sits at 5,410 feet and offers a unique combination of city comfort and mountain beauty.

Stroll hand-in-hand along the famous MG Marg pedestrian street in the evening, visit the ancient Rumtek Monastery at sunrise, or simply sit in a rooftop café watching the clouds roll over the hills. Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass (with proper permits) are just a short drive away — both are experiences that stay with you for life.

Pelling — Waking Up to Kanchenjunga Every Morning

If there is one place in India where the first thing you see when you open your curtains is a massive snow-covered Himalayan peak — it is Pelling. Situated in West Sikkim, this small town has become a legend among honeymooners for exactly this reason.

The Kanchenjunga Falls, Khecheopalri Lake (believed to be a sacred wishing lake), and the Rabdentse Ruins are all close by. But truthfully, most couples who come here spend a lot of their time just sitting on their hotel balcony, watching the mountains change colour through the day.

03

North Sikkim — The Most Dramatic Landscape on Earth

North Sikkim is not for everyone. The roads are narrow and winding, the altitude is extreme, and the cold can catch you off guard. But for couples who are ready for it, this is one of the most unforgettable experiences possible.

Gurudongmar Lake, at an altitude of 17,800 feet, is so still and so vast that it looks like a mirror placed between the mountains. Yumthang Valley, called the “Valley of Flowers,” bursts into bloom with rhododendrons every spring. And Zero Point — at the edge of what is accessible — is where the road simply ends and the wilderness begins.

Ravangla — The Quiet One That Surprises Everyone

Ravangla is often skipped by first-time visitors. That is a genuine mistake. This small town in South Sikkim sits between Gangtok and Pelling, and it has a quality that is very rare in popular tourist circuits — genuine peace.

The Tathagata Tsal — a massive 130-foot statue of Lord Buddha surrounded by a beautiful garden — is here. The surrounding forests have some of Sikkim’s best walks and birdwatching. And the hotels here tend to be quieter, more personal, and often have the best views of all.

What to Know Before You Book Your Sikkim Honeymoon

Planning a honeymoon in Sikkim is straightforward — but there are a few things that catch couples off guard. Based on our experience and feedback from travelers, here is what you genuinely need to know before you finalize your package.

Permits are required for certain areas. North Sikkim, Nathula Pass, and a few other zones require special Inner Line Permits (ILP) for Indian nationals, and Protected Area Permits (PAP) for foreign nationals. Any good package operator will arrange these on your behalf — make sure to confirm this before booking.

The best time to visit is March to June (spring bloom, best visibility) and October to mid-December (post-monsoon clarity and a chance of early snow). July to September is monsoon season — roads can get difficult and some mountain views are obscured, though the valleys are spectacularly lush and green.

Choose the right package operator. Many operators advertise Sikkim packages but use generic itineraries and budget accommodations that fall far short of what a honeymoon deserves. Always check reviews, ask for specific hotel names, and confirm what “couple perks” are actually included.

✈️

How to Reach

Fly to Bagdogra Airport (IXB) — the nearest major airport. From there, Gangtok is a scenic 4-hour drive. NJP Railway Station in Siliguri is the closest rail hub.

🌡️

Weather & Packing

Even in summer, mountain nights can be cold. Pack layers. For North Sikkim, heavy woollens and wind-proof jackets are essential regardless of season.

📱

Connectivity

BSNL has the best coverage in remote areas. In major towns like Gangtok, most networks work fine. North Sikkim has limited coverage — embrace the offline time together.

💳

Cash & Payments

Carry sufficient cash. ATMs are available in Gangtok and Pelling, but remote areas may not have them. Most hotels accept cards; smaller restaurants may not.

🏥

Altitude & Health

Acclimatize before heading to high-altitude zones. Avoid rushing to North Sikkim on Day 1. Stay hydrated, avoid heavy meals, and consult your doctor if you have any heart or lung conditions.

🏨

Book Hotels Early

The best mountain-view rooms in Pelling and Gangtok fill up fast, especially during peak season (March–June). Book at least 60 days in advance for the best availability.
